The title of this blog is the same as that of an old Japanese movie I saw once in a film festival (Eiga Sai). The English title was “Don’t Look Back“, but I found out later on that that title was only for art/marketing purposes.
The literal translation is
Dokomademou – Anywhere
Ikou – Let’s go
“Let’s go, anywhere.”
The story was about two boys–best friends since they were kids, but then a new school year started and they were placed in different classes. One, took an interest in girls, and the other, got mixed up with a “bad crowd”. But despite how different their lives had become, in the end, they were still friends.
I think the title was referring to how, before they grew older and were placed in different classes, they had all the freedom in the world–they didn’t care where they went or what they did, because as long as they were together, they had fun.
Anyway, I’m always reminded of that movie whenever I feel like getting away. I’m not running from anything in particular, and I’m aware of how dangerous it is to just go to places and not plan your trip carefully. But then, there’s a certain thrill you get from going to a place you’ve never been to before, seeing things for the first time, finding out new things and not knowing what to expect… I think that’s where the joy of traveling lies. So I hope you join me in my adventures as I write them in this blog.
Dokomademou, ikou!
