Nail It!

25 07 2014

I went to the Festival Mall branch of Nail It! today and found out that their tag line is “Affordable luxury.” I think it’s a nice tag line, but I’d like to break it down. Quickly, as there are only two words in it, anyway.

1) Are their services affordable?

Actually, yes. At Php500, their basic manipedi package is of average price, but it’s the only place I’ve found that adds a foot spa to the package for only Php80 additional. In most other places, a manipedi may only cost you P500, but an additional foot spa will cost you at least Php150 (I say “at least”, which means that most other places charge more than that.)

But the question is, is the additional foot spa worth it?

For only Php80, I’d say yes, because you might as well. But I’m not certain if it’s really a big advantage over other nail salons that charge more for their foot spas. They use the right equipment and there’s a nice, minty scrub as well, but the water they used was cold. Freezing cold. I’m not sure if this was the fault of the nail technician assigned to me, or if it’s a Nail It! thing, but isn’t the water for foot spas supposed to be warm?

2) Is it luxury?

Kind of, no. Although they use nice the nail polish brands (O.P.I./Orly), the service was quick and very business-like, which I guess is good for other types of businesses but, I don’t think it’s appropriate in this case. You really feel that they have other clients waiting so they’re just going through the motions, doing their best to do all the things they need to do as fast as they can so they can move on to the next customer, which does not a luxurious experience make.

Also, they use a fan to dry your nails quicker. I guess this is a standard in some salons, but fans are the reasons for when your nail polish dries with tiny holes in ’em, so I don’t think this is the method you’d want to use when you want your polished nails to look perfect.

All that said, I think I will still give Nail It! a chance the next time I need a manipedi. Perhaps the other branches are better, or even the other nail technicians in the same branch. I mean, it is relatively affordable, and I guess 1 out of 2 promises ain’t that bad.
